New Delhi, July 28 (ANI): The Congress party on Thursday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the illegal mining scam in Karnataka, a day after the state Lokayukta, Justice (retired) N.Santosh Hegde, named Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and members of his family as having committed acts of corruption in his report.
Describing the Rs.16,085 crore mining scam in Karnataka as bigger and larger than the 2G spectrum scam affecting the telecom industry, Congress spokesman B.K.Hariprasad said that the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) decision to demand the immediate resignation of Yeddyurappa was too little and had come too late.
Another Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said that Yeddyurappa's resignation should have taken place six months ago, and added that the charges against him and members of his family were very serious.
He also said that Yeddyurappa had not resigned as yet and demanded to know why there was a delay on this acount. He said that the other ministers named in the Lokayukta's report had also not resigned.
He said that the Congress party and the UPA Government was ready to give any answers to opposition charges on various issues. (ANI)
