New Delhi, July 23 (ANI): The arrest of Ghulam Nabi Fai in the US is a significant development and a certain culmination of efforts made by countries that have been working towards ending these kinds of nefarious activities, said an Indian Government source.
For almost 20 years now, the Indian foreign office has been aware of Fai's linkages to the ISI, Pakistan's intelligence organization, with its nefarious design of fuelling separatism in India.
But the world didn't want to listen to the Indian charge, dismissing it as paranoia or else another ploy to ignore the so called genuine separatist movement and blame it all on Pakistan's propaganda machine.
The source said that even as far back as in the 90's when Fai was not e-mail savvy, he used to send out hate filled faxes, which had gruesome pictures and details of what he called Indian atrocities in Kashmir and Pakistan. The Indian embassy in Washington DC had then labeled it as 'Fai's fax-terrorism'.
62-year-old Kashmiri origin American, Ghulam Nabi Fai, was arrested on July 19th in Fairfax Virginia on charges of having received thousands of dollars from the ISI and disbursing it among US congressmen as lobbying activity. He did not have any lobbying permit and violated US laws for which he was arrested.
Indian sources indicated that it is now a matter of time before Fai and his Kashmir Council's offices in London and Brussels also come under scrutiny for financial irregularities.
When asked whether India had sought details about the money trail leading to Indian separatists, the sources said that India is not specially seeking out details as the investigation is still on in the US. Once the FBI has all the details, it is believed that they will share it with India.
The Indian Government stands vindicated for what it believes it has said for a very long time and not been believed in all western capitals, that Fai was a rabble-rouser who fueled separatism in India under the guise of hosting respectable conferences. Fai's arrest and his linkages with the ISI will figure in the India-Pakistan talks to be held in New Delhi next week. By Smita Prakash(ANI)
