London, July 23 (ANI): Quidditch, a sport which author JK Rowling introduced in the Harry Potter series, is fast becoming famous all over the world and in India too.
'Ground quidditch' started in the US, and it is now being followed globally, with teams from Russia, India and Brazil, and there's even an annual Quidditch World Cup, the Daily Mail reported.
In this version, though, there's no flying, but the competitors do carry broomsticks.
Besides being land-based, the game has one other exception - the golden snitch, the shiny ball with wings that Harry Potter chases, is played by a human dressed in yellow who runs around the pitch.
Fans say the result is like a cross between soccer and rugby, with the seven players from each team trying to hit a ball - the quaffle - through hoops at each end of the pitch. (ANI)
