Bangalore, July 21 (ANI): Karnataka Governor H.R. Bhardwaj on Friday said he will ct on Lokayukta Justice (retired) Santosh Hegre's report on illegal mining issue, once it is placed before him .
"I will act as per the Lokayukta Act. Every time I raised issue of mining, they denied it. I am the only competent (Constitutional) authority to take action against government," NDTV quoted him, as saying.
On Thursday, Lokayukta Justice Hegde confirmed that Chief Minster BS Yeddyurappa has been indicted in his report on the illegal mining scam in the state.
Hegde in his report mentioned that Yeddyurappa was indirectly involved in an illegal mining scam and his close family members were directly involved in it.
Hegde also confirmed that the report was in fact leaked, but denied that the source of the leak was from within his office, stating that none of his staff were involved.
"The importance of the report will not diminish due to the leakage," he said
Terming the illegal mining scam as huge, he said, "In the time period of 14 months, it is more than Rs 1800 crore. The time period is between March 2009 to May 2010. It is the loss to the state exchequer. It is loss to the state".
He also said that Yeddyurappa's son and son-in-law are involved in the mining scam as well.
According to the Lokayukta report, Yeddyurappa faces two direct charges; benefitting through overvalued land sales to mining companies and kickbacks routed through trusts his relatives have a stake in.
Besides BS Yeddyurappa, four top state ministers and former Chief Minister Kumaraswamy and Congress MP Anil Lad have also been named in the Lokayukta report. (ANI)
