Lucknow, July 21 (ANI): Gearing up for next year's Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission (EC) launched a special van to spread awareness among voters in Lucknow on Thursday.
The Chief Election Commissioner, SY Quraishi flagged off the van in the presence of senior EC officials in Lucknow.
Initiated by the Election Commission, the well-equipped van would be touring the state in the run up to the 2012 assembly polls and help resolve the complaints of the voters.
The van would also reach out to the non-voters, and take special measures to attract the youth to the election process, said EC officials.
Besides the van, EC officials also unveiled an election call center, aimed at helping voters use their political franchise wisely to strengthen the nation's vibrant democratic principles.
"Through this van, we will travel across the state to spread awareness among locals. We have also inaugurated a call centre for the benefit of the voters. If they need any information or advice, or if they have a complaint against anyone, they can do so through our call service. It is a single window helpline for the voters through which all their problems and complaints can be resolved," said Quraishi.
According to media reports, the EC team would also be meeting top state officials and representatives of recognised political parties in the state during their visit.
The team will be in Uttar Pradesh for the next three days to assess poll arrangements for assembly elections.(ANI)
