New Delhi, July 20 (ANI): Sam Pitroda, advisor to the Prime Minister on public information infrastructure and innovations, has said that several pilot projects based on smart grid technology would be launched across India to develop the effectiveness of India's power sector.
Pitroda said Rupees Six billion would be invested to implement the pilot project in different parts of the country.
He said the pilot project would develop a preliminary structure on smart grid which would be further widened across India.
"We have 300-400 crores rupees of pilots going on today in the system, we plan to spend another 300 crores or so on additional pilots, we believe it will take us about eighteen months to get all the pilots going and after that we are going to make some basic decisions on scaling it," said Pitroda.
Smart grids are electricity networks that integrate generators and consumers to make power supply more efficient and sustainable.
They require new communications systems, data integration and other software, smart meters, security systems and a host of other services. (ANI
