Sydney, July 18(ANI): Former Australian cricketer and legendary beer drinker David Boon has decided to become the new face of a brand of whisky from Canada-a move that beer drinkers might consider treason.
Boon will begin flogging Canadian Club from this week, saying that his favourite tipple is now Canadian Club and dry, not a foam-topped frosty one.
According to the Australian, in the campaign, the man once dubbed the "keg on legs" will declare he is "over beer" and drinkers will be challenged to play a "where's Boonie?" game in which they will be "bribed" with prizes to keep quiet about catching him drinking the spirit.
The 50-year-old, however, denied that he is rejecting beer and simply chasing money, saying that his tastes have evolved.
"Deciding to be a part of the Canadian Club Over Beer? campaign wasn't a hard one. I think it's a good product which I enjoy drinking, so I'm happy to put my face to it. The campaign's not about knocking beer," Boon said.
Boon was the face of Victoria Bitter (VB) beer for its 2005/06 and 2006/07 summer advertising campaigns, called "Boonanza".
He had consumed 52 cans of beer on a flight from Sydney to London in 1989, in a story that is considered by some to be part of Australian sporting legend. (ANI)
