Naharlagun, July 17 (ANI): After marathon discussions with the Indian authorities, the Chinese Embassy int New Delhi has consented to issue visas to the Arunchalee karatekas, who are scheduled to represent India in the 11th Asian Karate-do Championship (Junior and Cadet) to be held at Quanghou City in Fujjian province of China from July 20 to 25 next, according to Arunachal Karate-do Association general secretary Langkung Marik.
According to a report filed by the Arunachal Front, despite strong protests by India against the stapled visas issued to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, China had expanded its stapled visa regime to Arunachal Pradesh in January last by issuing stapled visas to two Arunchalees - Indian Weightlifting Federation's (IWF) joint secretary Abraham K Techi along with a noted Arunchalee weightlifter.
They were to leave for Beijing on January 12 at the invitation of Chinese Weightlifting Association president Menguang on behalf of China Weightlifting Grand Prix to be held at Fujian Province during January 15 to 17, but prevented at the international airport.
China's visa regime change to not affect the ongoing bilateral border talks between the two neighbouring nations was evident when an eight-member military delegation headed by Major General Gurmeet Singh, commander of J-K-based Delta Force, was issued for visa a six-day military exchange programme in June last.
A five-member team of state karatekas - Likha Lej (52 kg cadet boys), Tage Saa (65 junior boys) and Rei Yadi (53 kg junior girls) - is leaving tomorrow for New Delhi to join the 35-member Indian Contingent for the global event with Marik as Indian team coach and Techi an official member. (ANI)
