Mumbai Police orders CID inquiry into Fayaz Usmani's death

Mumbai, Sun, 17 Jul 2011 ANI

Mumbai, July 17 (ANI): Mumbai Police on Sunday revealed that a CID inquiry has been ordered into the death of terror suspect Fayaz Usmani.

Usmani died in hospital on Sunday.

A report which was to confirm or deny signs of injury according to sources, says there were no external injury marks on the body, reports the Times Now channel.

Fayaz Usmani's body has now been taken for a postmortem. Considering the situation the hospital has decided to call in a forensic team.

Once the postmortem report is out later this evening, it will be ascertained whether Fayaz died of natural causes or was tortured by authorities.

Meanwhile, the CT scan performed on Usmani shows brain hemorrage and unusual levels of blood pressure. Dr Ryan Kumar, a doctor at the hospital said, "He died due to brain haemorrhage. This condition is usually when a person is exposed to some kind of shock".

Fayaz's family had earlier today alleged that he was tortured by police while being questioned on his suspected connection to the Mumbai serial blasts.

The police denied the allegations. Mumbai Police Spokesperson Nisar Tamboli said, "He was brought for questioning by the Chembur unit. He was suffering from hypertension and had not take medicines for the last three-four days. He was admitted to the hospital last evening and the allegations of torture by police are absolutely untrue". (ANI)
