Islamabad, July 16(ANI): The 'undemocratic setup' of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) can be changed by implementing the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Pakistan Task Team (PTT) recommendations, a veteran Pakistani cricket analyst has said.
Zakir Hussain Syed, who has worked as a development officer for the Asian Cricket Council, also reckons that the PCB should avoid needless disputes with the governing body of the sport.
"It's a very grim situation. They (PCB) are not realizing that if they continue to adopt a confrontation policy with the ICC it will cause a mess and damage will be serious," the Daily Times quoted Syed, as saying. The sensible thing to do is to implement those recommendations in the task team's report," he added.
The PTT report had earlier recommended that the board's chairman and members of the governing board should not be appointed by Pakistan's President.
However, the PCB in its response had defended its appointment system.
"The circumstances in Pakistan are unique and cricket administration requires and deserves government support without which international cricket may not be able to return to Pakistan. Keeping in view the extraordinary security situation in the country, having the President as Patron of PCB adds tremendous value and comfort," the PCB had said.
A PCB source had also said the board may legally challenge the ICC recommendation.
The PTT was formed to revive international tours of Pakistan, suspended after a terror attack on the Sri Lankan team in 2009, and to strengthen the game in the country which has been battered by allegations of spot-fixing. (ANI)
