Kanpur, July 12 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday visited the Civil Hospital in Kanpur to meet the victims of Kalka Mail train accident
Gandhi was in the hospital for nearly an hour. He met the injured one by one and enquired about the medical treatment.
At least 68 people died and 249 injured when 15 bogies of a speeding Delhi-bound Kalka Mail derailed near Malwan station on Sunday afternoon.
Apart from the Army, specialized teams of the National Disaster Response Force, Railways, and local administration are on the spot to help in the rescue and salvage operations.
The Delhi-Howrah route, that happens to be a key factor in Indian economy, still remains disrupted as numerous trains have been cancelled or diverted.
The Railway authorities had rushed a special train on Sunday evening from New Delhi to Kanpur to ferry the stranded passengers to their respective destinations.
A team of 12 doctors was seen attending the injured passengers who reached New Delhi in the special relief train on Monday. (ANI)
