Agartala, July 10 (ANI): Tripura Police has claimed that the villagers, who were abducted by the militants from a village in Tripura earlier this month, are presently in Bangladesh.
A group of heavily armed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militants kidnapped six people, including a government employee on July 1.
Police officials said they are trying their best to bring the villagers back.
"They are across the border. We know they are very close to the BDR camp (paramilitary Bangladesh Rifles). Now, we have requested the BSF (Border Security Force) also. We have given all the details where they have kept and which BDR camp," said Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) K. Salim Ali.
"They are kept very close to some BDR camp, so we have requested BSF to have a flag meeting with Bangladesh border guarding force so that this point can be traced and necessary action could be made. That also we have done. The letter has gone," he added.
As per reports, the NLFT has set up its base in Bangladesh and is getting support from other separatist outfits in the region.
The group has been demanding independence for indigenous tribal population of the state and secession of Tripura from India. (ANI)
