Las Vegas, July 10(ANI): British boxing legend Ricky Hatton still believes that David Haye can unify the heavyweight division and called on the former WBA world champion to postpone his retirement.
Haye had been adamant until he lost his WBA world heavyweight title to Ukrainian star Wladimir Klitschko in Hamburg last Saturday, that he would walk away from the sport on October 13, when he turns 31.
"Retirement is a bit too early for him. He should give it a couple more fights. He still has a lot to offer," The Daily Mirror quoted Hatton, as saying.
The 'Hitman' also agrees with Golden Boy Promotions chief Richard Schaefer who said that Haye should rebuild his career in the United States.
"It would be nice for David Haye to see the Hayemaker's name up in lights. And it would be good to re-establish himself over there and come back and get a rematch here with Wladimir or fight Vitali," Hatton said.
"Haye is still the most exciting heavyweight in the division, and is capable of beating them," he added. (ANI)
