Sasaram (Bihar), July 10 (ANI): Nine Maoists have laid down their arms before police in Sasaram in Bihar's Rohtas District.
Manu Maharaj, Superintendent of Police, Rohtas District, told mediapersons on Saturday hat the Maoists have expressed a wish to rejoin the mainstream society.
"These people have decided to join the mainstream and are trying to figure out how best to do it. They were not happy and don't want to hold weapons now. We are also very happy that they have come forward to surrender," he said.
Maharaj said multiple benefits would be extended to the surrendered Maoists and their families after their surrender
"Under surrender policy, some provisions have been given to their families and in that, they get some money per month and, under the supervision of officials, they have been provided benefits for surrendering," he added.
The surrendered arms include nine police rifles, one AK-47 rifle, 3 SLR rifles and around 2000 bullets. (ANI)
