London, July 10 (ANI): England on Saturday sealed its one-day series against Sri Lanka by winning the fifth and final one-day at Old Trafford, Manchester.
One-day captain Alastair Cook got the man-of-the series award for scoring an aggregate 298 runs.
Chasing England's score of 268 for the loss of nine wickets, Sri Lanka went down by 16 runs, scoring 252 in 48.2 overs. England won the series 3-2.
England was served well by Kieswetter, Cook, Trott and Morgan when they batted. In the bowling department,Anderson, Bresnan and Dernbach claimed seven of the ten wickets to fall.
For Sri Lanka,Sangakarra, Chandimal, Angelo Mathews and B.Mendis were the major contributors to the total of 252.
According to the Telegraph, a definitive judgment on the success of Cook's appointment, however, has to be reserved until after the Test series against India.
It will be no good if Cook grows into a prolific one-day batsman, and a Hayden-like hitter, if he runs down the wicket and misses against the off spin of Harbhajan Singh and his day-long vigils shrink to quick-fire 20s. (ANI)
