Shimla, July 9(ANI): A cycle rally was held in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, on Saturday to spread the message of clean environment.
The rally was organized by a social group to promote cycling and environmental conservation.
Over 100 cyclists including school children participated in the 10-kilometre cycle rally.
"We have started an environment campaign called 'Walk Shimla Walk'. We are encouraging people to walk even more and revive this habit and also use it as a mode of transportation," said Sushil Tanwar, the organizer of the rally.
"We are also promoting the use of cycles along with walking, since cycles are environment-friendly. Also, it is not very difficult to ride a cycle in the hilly terrain as per people's perception," he added.
The Deputy Commissioner of Shimla (District Administration), Onkar Thakur, had flagged off the rally.
The rally does not only promote cycling as a sport, but also spreads the message to remain physically fit.
Thakur added that these rallies were regularly organized to promote environment conservation.
"Well, first of all, I would like to congratulate an NGO and its Chairman Sushil Tanwar and for organizing this cycle race. It is an eco-friendly ride and spreads the message of conserving the environment and maintaining one's health," Thakur said.
The Himachal Pradesh government regularly organizes such events to encourage more participation from locals. (ANI)
