Chennai, July 9 (ANI): Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who met Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) Chief M Karunanidhi here today, said the alliance with DMK will continue and strengthen.
Talking to reporters after meeting Karunanidhi, Mukherjee said: "The alliance is there, the alliance will continue and it will be strengthened."
Noting that this was his first visit to Chennai after the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, he said: "I took the opportunity of calling on him and explained the current political situation and shared our views."
The meeting comes in the backdrop of the exit of Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran from the UPA government over the 2G scam.
Ousted Maran too was present at this meeting. Before Mukherjee arrived at Karunanidhi's residence, Maran met Karunanidhi for the second time since his arrival from Delhi on Friday night.
Maran resigned after coming under the Supreme Court's scanner in connection with the 2G scam with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filing its fresh status report on the probe before the apex court.
Maran is the third leader of UPA's ally DMK, who is under scrutiny after lawmaker Kanimozhi and former Union Telecom Minister A. Raja were arrested for their alleged role in the 2G scam. (ANI)
