London, July 8 (ANI): UK's first lesbian football club, Belfast Braves, has been hailed as a haven for players.
The Braves include women who participated in the Northern Ireland Ladies' Football Association league.
According to general manager Lesley Todd, they felt a dedicated lesbian club was necessary "to create a safer environment".
"Our experience is that lesbian players on regular teams can be singled out for whispering campaigns," the Guardian quoted Todd as saying.he club has been receiving mostly positive responses, and it has also helped with attitudes.
"Attitudes have changed a lot. But discrimination still exists. That's why BB is a haven," captain Angie Young stated. (ANI)
