London, July 4 (ANI): After apologising to his fans in Britain for his defeat against Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko, boxer David Haye has promised to get return to form in the boxing arena.
The Londoner, who surrendered his WBA heavyweight world crown to Klitschko on Sunday, has always insisted he will not box on after his 31st birthday this October.
Now Haye, who needed two injections in his right foot to numb pain from a broken toe moments before he walked to the ring, was quoted by The Sun, as saying: "I don't want to go out like this. I'm a born fighter. This is what I do."e added: "Carrying on is not about regaining your appetite - I'm used to training and fighting."
Fans who had travelled over from England stayed behind in the rain that swept through the Imtech Arena to barrack Haye, who was well beaten on all three ringside judges' cards.
Haye conceded: "They need someone to blame and that person is me. They were in the rain all night, they wanted a high and didn't get it. I apologise to them - I did my best but my best was not good enough."
The Brit insists he is not a toe-rag and said his injury was an explanation, not an excuse.
He added: "I am not saying the reason I lost was because of my broken toe. Wladimir won because he was the better fighter on the night and I have no trouble accepting that." (ANI)
