Mumbai Police stops candlelight protest organised by Grover's friends

Mumbai, July 3 (ANI): Mumbai Police reportedly stopped the friends of television executive Neeraj Grover from holding a candlelight vigil in Malad today near the flat of Kannada actress Maria Susairaj.

The police personnel rounded up the people, who were taking part in this protest march that was organised by Grover's friends and colleagues from the entertainment industry.

According to reports, a second march is scheduled to take place in Lokhandwala later in the day.

Maria Susairaj, who was convicted for destruction of evidence in the Neeraj Grover murder case, walked free from Mumbai's Byculla Jail on Saturday for having already served her three-year sentence awarded by a court during the trial.

Friends and family members of Neeraj Grover have expressed disappointment over the release of Susairaj into this case, and have been demanding justice.

Discontent with the verdict of the court, Grover's family in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur city on Saturday said that Maria Susairaj could not speak up to questions on the murder, as she knew she was guilty.

"Maria does not have a face to say anything. She is unable to face her friends because of the crime she has done. She is a liar due to which she is unable to say anything. A true person can fearlessly talk about what he or she has done," said Neelam Grover, mother of Neeraj Grover.

"Nothing changes by what she is saying. Where is Neeraj? If she is innocent why is not she answering? She is guilty, there is no doubt in it," she added.

Grover's friends held a silent candlelight demonstration in New Delhi earlier on Saturday.

A Mumbai Session Court on Friday sentenced Maria Susairaj to three years, while her boyfriend Emile Jerome Mathew, a former Navy Lieutenant, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in the Neeraj Grover murder case.

Maria had already served a sentence of three years and therefore she was set free. (ANI)
