Kolkata, June 4(ANI): Members of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Saturday began a two-day state committee meeting in Kolkata to review their poor performance in the recently concluded assembly elections in West Bengal.
At the meeting, the CPI-M functionaries would address the party's polls debacle and analyze their biggest electoral defeat since 1977.
Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat and Left Front Chairman Biman Bose are attending the meeting.
"We will review the recently-held state assembly elections. This is the only agenda," said Kali Ghosh, CPI-M's state committee member of West Bengal.
The members will review and analyze their failure to retain traditional CPI-M bastion of West Bengal, and will also discuss strategies on improvement.
The state committee members had earlier met on May 17 for a preliminary review.
At that meeting, a few leaders blamed the poor showing on the party's internal issues.
In the state polls in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) won 227 seats out of 294 in the elections, while the ruling Left Front, led by the CPI-M only garnered 62 seats. (ANI)
