Forbesganj (Bihar), Apr 29(ANI): Apne Aap Women Worldwide India Trust, an anti-trafficking organization, has said it along with a network of small self-help groups and organizations has started training women and children affected by trafficking.
The organization said it would build the capacity of these girls/women to access their rights, entitlements to education, land, livelihoods, and to stand up against traffickers.
They are training them with its '3 L' anti-trafficking self-help model and supporting them with grants to run community outreach centres known as Antodaya Basti Vikas Kendras.
"Since 2003, we have gathered significant knowledge and understanding of the psychology of affected communities and societal attitudes towards trafficking. Our experience tells us that we can be more effective if we can scale our innovative ideas to reach a significant number of girls and women affected by trafficking," the organization said in a statement.
"We have, therefore, decided to position ourselves as an umbrella organization for a network of small self-help groups and organizations that are explicitly against trafficking and can advocate for lasting legal change. This will both provide community support and build the field."
"Apne Aap will continue to strengthen and promote the formation of anti-trafficking Self Help Groups of girls and women, especially among survivors of prostitution, DNTs, castes and communities prone to sex-trafficking and maintain a network across India and South Asia of these and affiliated support groups," it added.
The organization further said that besides training on the national legislations like the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act 1956, the Indian Penal Code 1860 and Criminal Procedure Code 1973, the women are also informed about international conventions and other human rights instruments like the UN Trafficking Protocol 2000, Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women 1979 and Convention on the Rights of Child 1989 (CRC).
