In a serious road accident in the Nasik district of Maharastra 37 people are reported to have been killed and others injured when a bus carrying pilgrims fell into a gorge late Sunday night.
As per the report of the local police, the private bus carrying a total of 76 devotees was returning from Saptshringi shrine and the accident occurred when the driver lost its control and it went down to a 60 feet gorge at around 10:30 pm.
The pilgrims were returning after a holy visit of shrine near Nanduri Garh. All the persons have been identified and are reported to be from Mumbai and its suburb Warli region.
The police in its initial report have also pointed out that the private luxury bus was overloaded. The driver too had a busy schedule of driving the bus since the last four days which might be the cause of the accident.
Immediate relief effort though saved life of few but most of the 37 dead were died at the spot. The injured are shifted to the Nasik civil hospital and some of them are informed to be critical.
This is yet another case of over loading as the bus was only supposed to place 45 passengers but was carrying 76. Five children and 17 women were among the dead.
Such road accidents are growing in number primarily because of careless driving, brake failure or poor visibility during rains. Some strict rule should be there before such journey takes place, the number of passenger and weather conditions should be taken care of. Also there should be concern from passengers who flocked in number risking their life forever.
Many of such accident are still avoidable.
