Technical innovations will liven up F1 season, says Alonso

Melbourne , Thu, 24 Mar 2011 ANI

Melbourne, Mar 24(ANI): Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso expects technical changes this season to make for an unpredictable Formula 1 season.

Alonso, who finished runner-up last season, was speaking ahead of Sunday's season-opening Australian Grand Prix where teams are preparing for a more strategic style of racing thanks to the introduction of Pirelli tyres.

The Italian tyre manufacturer, the sole supplier to the sport this year, has deliberately designed tyres to degrade faster than Bridgestone's predecessors to help spice up the racing.

"For sure it is a new way of doing the races in terms of the strategy so let's say a new Formula One is starting here in Melbourne. I think everyone will have a different opinion, but in my case I don't think there is a particular problem with the new rules or the things we need to do with the steering wheel," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Alonso, as saying.

"They are a part of our job, we are professional drivers and we need to understand between us and our teams the most comfortable way of using the new things."

"If you have no time to do all the things on the steering wheel, you don't do it, it's not a mandatory thing," he added.

Alonso further said that he was also comfortable with other changes for this year such as the reintroduction of the KERS system, which gives a short power boost, and adjustable rear wings. (ANI)
