Doha, Mar.24 (ANI): Qatar University's mechanical and industrial engineering department has designed an artificial cloud to shade and cool the open playgrounds to be used during the 2022 Football World Cup in Doha.
Saud Abdul Gani, the head of the department, said the project would be executed in collaboration with the Qatar Science and Technology Park.
"We are in discussion with the QSTP about the costs and to create an initial model on a trial basis," The Gulf News quoted him, as saying.
He explained the clouds will be "manufactured" from light carbon materials and totally indigenous sources and will be propelled by four solar powered engines.
Artificial clouds would fly at a very high altitude to serve as shields from the direct and indirect sunrays and thereby help in controlling the temperature.
Gani said that the costs for manufacturing the initial model could be around 500,000, dollars but the cost would decrease when produced on a commercial scale. (ANI)
