Kiwis' two Test tour to Bangladesh postponed till 2012 over oppressive conditions

Wellington, Thu, 24 Mar 2011 ANI

Wellington, Mar 24 (ANI): New Zealand's two scheduled tests in Bangladesh in May have been re-arranged for next year after the authorities sought a postponement due to the oppressive weather conditions in the subcontinent.

New Zealand Cricket's Bangladeshi counterpart agreed to the request and the two tests will now be played in 2012.

The tests were originally due to be played in Bangladesh last October, until the hosts agreed to an approach from NZC to play those matches at a later date and extend the one-day series between the nations from three to five matches as both prepared for the World Cup, Stuff.co.nz reports.

"We welcome the decision and believe it is a sensible outcome. Bangladesh is extremely hot and humid in May and June with cricket rarely played during that time of year," NZC chief executive Justin Vaughan said.

"The option to postpone until 2012, where the cricket calendar is less cluttered, also gives our top players the option to freshen up after a long and intensive period of cricket," he said.

The New Zealand team is next scheduled to make a brief tour to Zimbabwe in October. (ANI)
