Afridi, Pak spinners bundle out Windies for 112 in WC quarterfinal

Mirpur (Bangladesh), Mar. 23 (ANI): Pakistan's openers Mohammad Hafeez and Kamran Akmal have begun their side's reply to the West Indies score of 112 in the first quarterfinal of the 2011 World Cup.

 

Earlier, Pakistan's spinners, led by skipper Shahid Afridi, ruthlessly bundled out the West Indies for 112. Afridi claimed four wickets for 30 runs, while Mohammad Hafeez and Saeed Ajmal claimed two wickets each. For the West Indies, middle-order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul topscored with an unbeaten 44.

 

The three Pakistan spinners had figures of 27.3-5-64-8.

 

The West Indies score had only seven fours and a solitary Chanderpaul six.

 

Runs throughout the innings were hard to come by. Apart from Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Kemar Roach were the other two players to enter double figures.Roach showed some of his team-mates that batting wasn't impossible as he accompanied Chanderpaul for 15 overs to add 40 for the ninth wicket.

 

The West Indies innings ended with more than six overs to spare. (ANI)
