Vettel may leave Red Bull if it fails to deliver F1 championship-defending car |Sports[Melbourne {Melbourne, Mar 22(ANI): Reigning Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel may leave Red Bull Racing to join a stronger team despite signing a long-term contract with the Milton Keynes-based team.
Vettel had recently agreed to drive for the title-winning team until the end of 2014, but it has now been revealed that there is an 'out' clause in his deal which would allow him to leave if Red Bull does not deliver him a competitive car, the Herald Sun reports.
However, Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz says that he is confident that the team will satisfy Vettel's ambitions.
He also admitted that he would allow the German to switch teams if the team fell off the pace.
"The deal was done so that Sebastian Vettel can feel secure at least for a while, but if we cannot give him what he needs and he asks us, despite his contract - to let him go, I can not imagine that we would not agree," Mateschitz said.
Mateschitz was also quoted as saying that the exit clause was a "formality, but is hardly necessary". (ANI)
