New Delhi, Mar 19 (ANI): A delegation of 15-20 Jat leaders will meet Union Home Minister P Chidambaram here today to find a solution to their demand for jobs reservation.
President of the All India Jat Arakshan Samiti (AIJAS) Yashpal Malik said: "A delegation of 15-20 Jat leaders will meet the Home Minister later in the day. Jats from Haryana will also be part of the delegation."
"We have made it clear that we will continue with our demonstrations till the central government takes adequate measures to comply with our demand. As of now, we will continue with our agitation in Amroha and will not target other places," he added.
The meeting will be attended by senior officials of the ministries of Home, Railways and Central Paramilitary Forces.
Following the Allahabad High Court order, which has directed State and Central governments to forcibly clear the railway tracks occupied by the community, the Centre is also likely to ask the Uttar Pradesh Government to take necessary steps to remove the blockade.
The Home Ministry is expected to assure all state governments to provide necessary security forces to deal with the law and order situation.
Earlier, emphasising that the court's directive is a blessing in disguise for Jats, Mallik said: "Now state and Central governments and Jats can sit together for a solution, otherwise Centre has been overlooking our demands for the past 20 years."
He further said that Jats have no complaints with the state government as they already have OBC status in UP since 2000.
He also said that for the past three years Jats had been agitating peacefully but only got assurances.
The Jat Panchayat also decided that they would not block other routes till March 20 in view of Holi.
The Jats are demanding reservation in the OBC category in central services. They have the backing of the pro-dalit Mayawati Government in Uttar Pradesh, which has refused to evict the Jats from the tracks. (ANI)
