New Delhi, Mar 17 (ANI): In light of the Supreme Court's direction for setting up a special court to deal with cases relating to 2G spectrum scam in view of the magnitude of the offence, a Delhi court on Thursday marked the file to the District Judge and asked Janata Party President and telecom scam petitioner Subramanian Swamy to appear before it.
"The Supreme Court had directed setting up of exclusive court to deal with cases arising out of the 2G scam. District and sessions Judge-1 is requested to kindly entrust this file to the court so constituted," said Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Judge Pradeep Chaddah.
The court has asked Swamy to appear before the district court on March 25.
Swamy's lawyer Tarun Goomber sought exemption for his client from personal appearance for today, as Swamy has to appear before the apex court in connection with the 2G spectrum case. The court permitted Swamy's plea.
Considering the magnitude of the 2G spectrum scam and the higher-ups involved in it, the Supreme Court had last month asked the Centre to consider setting up a special court to try the case expeditiously.
A Bench of Justices G.S. Singhvi and A.K. Ganguly, after perusing the status reports submitted by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate, made it clear that the CBI should go after the beneficiaries of the 2G spectrum scam if there was prima facie evidence of their role and involvement. (ANI)
