India closely monitoring evolving situation in Bahrain

New Delhi, Mon, 14 Mar 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Mar 14 (ANI): Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed on Monday said that India is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Bahrain.

"I am in constant touch with our Ambassador and have asked him to stay closely in touch with the Indian community," said Ahamed, while responding to a query regarding the safety of Indians in Bahrain.

"The Indian community should follow the advice of our Embassy in Bahrain, which is to keep a low profile, stay indoors and to avoid all non-essential travel within the country," he added.

Bahrain has witnessed weeks of demonstrations led by the Shiite opposition, which says that the Sunni Royal family discriminates against it. (ANI)
