New Delhi, Mar 10 (ANI): Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Dr. C.P. Joshi today met Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Hj. Mohd. Yassin.
During the meeting, both sides stressed the need to take further action for technical cooperation under the MOU, which was signed between India and Malaysia in December 2010.
Dr. Joshi stated that Steering Committee has been appointed from the Indian side, and a meeting of the Steering Committee would be initiated in the near future.
"Simultaneously, two technical teams - one regarding Technical Specifications and Standards and Designs of Roads and Bridges; and the other regarding Tolling Technology and Operation - would be visiting Malaysia during April, 2011," he said.
However, Yassin suggested that the Malaysian companies could assist in developing training facilities and programmes for skilled workers in the road construction sector. Details for forward action in this regard would be discussed in the next meeting of the Steering Committee.
He also highlighted that Government of Malaysia is stressing upon the Malaysian companies to also focus on corporate social responsibility actions while they are working on their business projects in India.
Yassin was accompanied by Minister of Works, Malaysia along with business delegation, which included representatives of several road construction companies. From Indian side, Secretary (Transport), DG (RD) and Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia attended the meeting. (ANI)
