Computer games making Brit kids fall asleep in school

London, Wed, 09 Mar 2011 ANI

London, Mar 9 (ANI): A teacher in Britain has warned that computer games are making kids fall asleep in primary school as they sit up till morning to play.ichard Gribble said pupils as young as ten were "addicted" to gaming - leaving them so tired they doze off at their desks.

He found more than three-quarters of his class were glued to their Xboxes every night - and a third even played before school.

The most popular and addictive game was the warfare hit Call of Duty: Black Ops.

He spelled out his fears in a newsletter to parents of all 600 pupils at Widey Court Primary School in Plymouth.

He said staff had seen a rise in the number of kids having very late nights, falling asleep in class, being unable to concentrate and talking about games in lessons.

His warning echoed concerns of Baroness Floella Benjamin, who last month warned that children should not be allowed TVs and consoles in their bedrooms.

Gribble said that some pupils were gaming for up to 40 hours a week.

"I don't want to tell people how to live their lives but there needs to be some control," the Sun quoted him as saying.

George Muirhead, chair of the National Primary Headteachers' Association, voiced concerns not only about children being tired but also them playing "inappropriately violent" games. (ANI)
