Lahore, Mar 1(ANI): The Lahore High Court (LHC) has dismissed a petition seeking lifetime bans and the confiscation of assets of the disgraced Pakistani trio- Salman Butt, Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Amir- for their involvement in the spot-fixing case, which the petitioner said brought a bad name to the country.
The court rejected the petition on the ground that "Petitioner, Advocate Rana Ilamudin Ghazi, is not liable to move the petition since he had not been affected by the issue directly," the Daily Times reported.
The petitioner had submitted that an Anti-Corruption Tribunal appointed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) had found the tainted trio guilty of corruption in the game.
He stated that the convicts not only violated the ICC and PCB rules, but also worked against the country and the benefit of its people.
"The punishment given by the ICC to the cricketers is much lesser than that what they deserve," he said.
"Cricketers, due to the popularity of the game, have become role models for the citizens and therefore, there was no room for corruption in cricket," he said, adding, "Along with the cricketers, investigations needed to be held against the PCB high-ups as well."
Referring to the former cricketer Sarfaraz Nawaz's statement, Ilamudin said that stern action should be taken against all guilty persons in order to improve the state of cricket in country.
In addition to the freezing of accounts of the suspended trio, the petitioner requested the court to freeze all assets of PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt, Pakistan cricket team manager, and the coach, accusing them of being part of all the corruption in the board. (ANI)
