Oz swimmer Klim comes out of retirement, eying Olympics comeback

Melbourne , Mon, 14 Feb 2011 ANI

Melbourne, Feb 14 (ANI): Retired Australian swimmer Michael Klim will return to competitive swimming with a view to competing at the London 2012 Olympics.

Responding to media speculation, Klim this afternoon announced that he had been training and the competitive "fire in the belly had returned."

"I'm going to have a crack . . . I don't have any expectation whatsoever," he said, adding that he was still unsure if his body could handle the rigorous workload.

The two time Olympic gold medallist said that he had been "dabbling in swimming again" and that being around the younger members of the Australian swim team had inspired him to return to the pool.

"It's exciting to still be young enough to put my hat in the ring. If I can get to London that would be fantastic," he said on FM radio this afternoon.

Klim, who retired from the sport in 2007, said Ian Thorpe had contacted him to wish him all the best for his return, The Sydney Morning Herald reports. (ANI)
