PCB officially files appeal with ICC to review five-year ban on Amir

Lahore, Sat, 12 Feb 2011 ANI

Lahore, Feb 12(ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially filed an appeal with the International Cricket Council, seeking review over its five-year ban imposed on Mohammed Amir.

PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt made this revelation during Geo Super's programme 'Super Exclusives', adding that the final decision would rest with the ICC.

The PCB is bound to follow the regulations of the ICC, which is unable to respond on the Anti-Corruption Tribunal's decision unless the tribunal completes its proceedings, Butt added.

However, Butt was hopeful for positive results in this regard, as he said that the ICC had expressed its readiness to bring the PCB's request under discussion during the council's meeting.

It is noteworthy that the independent ACT appointed by the ICC to hear into the spot-fixing case had imposed a "sanction of five years of ineligibility" on Amir.

"The Tribunal found that the charges under Article 2.1.1 of the Code that Amir agreed to bowl and did bowl two deliberate no balls in the same Test, and Mr Butt was party to the bowling of those deliberate no balls, were proved," said an ICC media release on February 5. (ANI)
