Amethi, Feb 10 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has slammed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for the deteriorating law and order condition of the state and raised questions about the safety and security of women in Amethi.
Addressing the locals, after laying the foundation stone of a training camp for Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Gandhi said that the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government had done nothing for the development of the state.
"There is slackness in security and you have also observed that since the past few days, the State has been facing grave problems like increase in rape cases. There is lack of industries, health services and education in the province. Without these things a citizen can achieve nothing," said Rahul.
Rahul, who has been leading a campaign to revive the party in the crucial state where the Congress has been out of power for over two decades, said that his party would make efforts to form a government in Uttar Pradesh, and thereafter, both the governments - at the Centre and in the state - would work in tandem.
He alleged that the benefits of welfare schemes are not reaching the targeted population in UP.
"The problem is that the benefits are not reaching the needy. Adequate funds are provided by the Centre for roads but the projects are not carried out properly due to corruption," he added.
He further said that the Centre is trying to take the country ahead at a rapid pace. The government is making efforts to implement Food Security Act in days to come.
"A lot of work has been done in MNREGA, health and education sectors, and efforts are being made to do more in future," he added. (ANI)
