Krejza facing David and Goliath showdown on Indian subcontinent

Sydney, Wed, 09 Feb 2011 ANI

Sydney, Feb.9 (ANI): When Australia's World Cup campaign gets underway, Tasmanian off-spinner Jason Krejza will face a David and Goliath showdown on the Indian subcontinent.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Australia will turn to the enigmatic Krejza to deliver the goods on the spin front after injured tweakers Nathan Hauritz (shoulder) and Xavier Doherty (back) were ruled unfit.

He will be expected to come up trumps against grand spin campaigners Muttiah Muralidaran, Harbhajan Singh, Graeme Swann and Daniel Vettori.

Krejza returns to the fold after a brief and turbulent two-Test career which featured a stunning 12 wickets on debut in India in 2008.

He was then sacked after being mauled by South Africa in Perth.

The 28-year-old appeared to have dropped off the radar until being plucked from state cricket for his ODI debut against England in Perth last weekend, taking 2-53.

"I am surprised but I have to take the chance and run with it," Krejza said.

Krejza has become Australia's No.1 spinner. But he is known far more as a first-class bowler than in the limited overs arena, where he averages almost 44 runs per wicket. (ANI)
