So far 8 suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with the blast. They are being interrogated to give further leads.

The police said the explosion was just a carbon copy of Saturday’s blast at Mehrauli in Delhi. Likewise Mehrauli blast, two persons riding a motorbike through the Tuka Bazar, a high congested market where Muslims people had gathered for shopping after breaking the day’s Roza, dropped a bag outside a restaurant around 9:30 pm.

A resident, Jainuddin, saw the bag and as he picked up to check what was inside, it exploded, killing him on the spot. Ayub Ghori was also critically injured and later died in hospital.

Earlier in the morning, 17 low-intensity crude bombs were recovered from Kalupur, an old city of Ahmedabad and defused by the bomb squad.

Blast in Malegaon, Maharashtra

Police probing the Malegaon blast said on Tuesday that the explosion which killed seven people and injured 50 others was caused by a bomb placed on a motorbike. The earlier report had suggested the blast was caused by gas cylinder.

The communally sensitive Bhikku Chowk area of powerloom town of Malegaon, where the explosion occurred at around 9:45 pm was cordoned off just after the blast.

The bomb was reportedly planted in a silver coloured Hero Honda Passion motorbike, which was found near the site.

The blast was followed by stone pelting incident on the police hurting over six people including policemen by enraged mob which was gathered at the site.

To control the angry mob police were forced to open fire and curfew was clamped later. On Tuesday morning curfew was though relaxed.

Mayor Najibuddin Shaikh said that several people were shopping for the forthcoming Eid festival while the blast took place at Bhikku Chowk, where three mosques are situated at three sides of it.

A team of forensic experts from Nashik had reached Malegaon to collect evidence from the blast site. An Anti-Terrorism Squad had also rushed there and was indulged in investigations.

This is the second time that Malegaon has been hit by terrorist attacks. Two years ago on September 8, 2006, four bomb blasts in the textile town had killed 31 and injured 300 others. Nine SIMI suspects had been arrested for the 2006 blasts.

Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil will be visiting the town today to take stock of the situation.
