London, Jan 29 (ANI): A new pill that costs just one pound a day and promises to keep heart disease and cancer at bay is set to go on sale in the UK.
The pill contains resveratrol supplement, derived from grape skin and naturally present in wine, claim makers Biotivia.
It also protects against Alzheimer's, delays ageing and tackles obesity as well as other health problems, they say.
However, it should not be used as an alternative to regular exercise and a healthy diet.
The pill goes on sale at Nutri Centre health stores next month. On Biotivia's website it costs just over 30 pounds for a month's supply.
However, doctors have advised that it can cause unpleasant side effects such as insomnia, joint pain, diarrhoea and acne.
Biotivia claims that the pill wards of cancer by triggering the death of malignant cells.
"The benefits are widespread and it effectively protects against a high-fat, high-calorie diet. It protects against cardiovascular disease by lowering cholesterol and reducing blood pressure," the Daily Mail quoted Dr Alex Barber, a GP in Hampshire, as saying.
Other claims made by Biotivia are that it enables the body to function on less sleep and that animal studies have shown that it improves stamina. (ANI)
