Dynamics 365 Field Service (on-premises) retiring on June 30, 2022

Microsoft announced to retire Dynamics 365 Field Service (on-premises) on June 30, 2022. Earlier in 2015 Microsoft acquired the IP of 365 Field Service in 2015 and announced to support on-premises version of the product till June 2022. Now it is advisable to the clients to move their application on the online version of the software.

Dynamics 365 Field Services (on-premises) is on-premise old Field Service Mobile app built with the Xamarin, which will be retire on 30 June 2022 and won’t be available from the Microsoft. So, it will be mandatory for clients using this application to migrate to cloud based solution before retirement of the application.

After the expiry of the on-premise application it won’t stop working, but customers won’t be able to deploy new installations. So, it is mandatory for the clients using application to migrate to another app or cloud based solutions. If any of the organizations are using Dynamics 365 Field Services (on-premises) they will have to migrate to Dynamics 365 field service, which is cloud based solution from Microsoft.

Microsoft official blog post says “If you've already installed the on-premises version, it will still be available for your organization. However, new installations of Field Service (on-premises) will no longer be available from Microsoft. Also, the Field Service Mobile application that works with Field Service (on-premises) will be retired and no longer available after June 30, 2022.”

Microsoft allows the customers to migrate to the Dynamic 365 Field service, which is cloud hosted solutions.  The migration is not free and customer will not require the licensing changes as the user of on-premise Customers service comes with the dual licence. So, it is advisable to the customers to migrate to Dynamics 365 Field service.

The current licence of on-premise Dynamics 365 Customer Service allows the customer to embrace the online version of the software. For many of the customers migration will be smooth and easy. Microsoft acquired IP of the FieldOne System in July 2015 and later rebranded Dynamics 365 Field Service. The FieldOne software was designed to work on the top of Dynamics CRM and was in the market since 2011. Microsoft acquired the IP and then release as Microsoft Field Service on-prem. Now company is going to retire the application June 30, 2022.

What is Dynamics 365 Field Service (on-premises)?

Dynamics 365 Field Service (on-premises) is an application from Microsoft that allows organizations to install and run Field Service version 7 along with the applications on the on-premise computers. As announced by Microsoft, the on-premises Field Service application will retire June 30, 2022 and won’t be supported after that.

How to upgrade?

According to Microsoft official blog post customers using on-premise Dynamics Field service will have to upgrade to cloud based Microsoft Dynamics 365 Field service.

Microsoft will also stop distributing the package for installing Dynamics 365 Field Service (on-premise) on Dec 31, 2021 and the installation package won’t be available after that.

Now it is good time for the clients to migrate their Dynamics 365 Field Service (on-premise) to cloud based Microsoft Dynamics 365 Field Service.
