New Zealand completely outplayed Pak in Wellington ODI: Waqar

Wellington, Jan 24(ANI): Pakistan coach Waqar Younis has admitted that his team was completely outplayed by New Zealand in the opening ODI in Wellington.

A five-wicket haul from fast bowler Tim Southee and a quickfire half-century from Jesse Ryder had helped New Zealand win the match by nine wickets.

"New Zealand played outstanding cricket and they beat us all ends up. It was a very poor day, we didn't play anywhere near to our potential and suffered a big loss," the Daily Times quoted Waqar, as saying.

"I think instead of giving any credit to the pitch or anything else, you have to give credit to the New Zealand bowlers, especially Tim Southee."

"He swung the ball and made sure he put it in the right area. Swinging the ball is one thing, putting it in the right area is another and I think he bowled superbly," he added.

Southee finished with figures of 5-33 from 9.3 overs, as New Zealand bowled out Pakistan for 124 in 37.3 overs.

The Kiwis then cruised to their victory target with over 32 overs to spare to take a 1-0 lead in the six-match series.

The emphatic victory ended the Black Caps' streak of 11 consecutive defeats in ODIs. (ANI)
