London, Jan 23(ANI): Former England all-rounder Ian Botham will be the guest of honour at a dinner organized by Australia-based Learning for a Better World (LBW), which supports over 100 students through tertiary education in the developing world.
An LBW board member, Mike Coward, said the function in Sydney on February 1 would aim to revive the trust's work in helping meet the study fees of disadvantaged youth in India, Uganda, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Pakistan.
"The LBW Trust was established in 2006 and continues to grow and flourish," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Coward, as saying.
"Presently the trust is providing for the education of more than 100 students in various colleges and universities in India, South Africa, Uganda and Imran Khan's Namal College in Pakistan," he added.
Coward further said that the trust is delighted to have Botham attend this year's function.
"He is renowned for his charity work and he has worked tirelessly for many charities throughout this tour of Australia. Four years ago, when England were here, David Gower was the special guest at the annual dinner," Coward said.
"Both are family men who have made many visits to developing countries and have an acute appreciation of the importance of education," he added. (ANI)
