Of all the crimes and illegal stuff existing in the society, drugs happen to be the most destructive. And to highlight the darker side of drug addiction, Bollywood has now come up with Udta Punjab, a crime thriller based on drugs.
Set in the backdrop of Punjab, it highlights how drugs have overtaken the youth in Punjab which has generated a need for worry and of course, immediate action. The film has been written and directed by Abhishek Chaubey. It is produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor under Balaji Motion Pictures in association with Phantom Films.
Ever since the announcement, Udta Punjab has been hogging in all the limelight. Firstly, it's the cast of the film that managed to turn heads basically Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, who have come together for a movie first time after their last outing Jab We Met.
While the two don't have any scenes together in the film, they being part of the same venture is highly commendable. Other actors in the line include Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh, the famous Punjabi actor who's making his Bollywood debut with Udta Punjab.
Let us tell you more about the film.
Cast: Based on the drug life in Punjab, the film stars Shahid Kapoor as the rock sensation Tommy Singh, Kareena Kapoor as Dr. Preet Sahani, Alia Bhatt as a Bihari Kumari Pinky and Diljit Dosanjh as Sartaj Singh ho plays a cop. Every actor sports a stunning and appealing look. Shahid is winning praises for his rugged rock star look while Alia has taken everyone by surprise playing the rural and rustic Bihari girl.
Production: Principal photography of it started in March 2015, and it's heard that Shahid, Kareena and Alia even halved their fees as the subject hit them hard.
Music: Film's music has been composed by award winning Amit Trivedi while the lyrics are penned by Shellee and Varun Grover. They have even used the lyrics by late Shiv Kumar Batalvi. Udta Punjab's background score has been given by Benedict Taylor & Naren Chandavarkar. Film's music rights are with Zee Music Company. There are total 7 songs in the film of which Chitta Ve was the first to release on May 4, 2016. Post which we saw two single coming out, Da Da Dasse and Ik Kudi. The full album was released on May 18, 2016. The songs are sung by Babu Haabi, Shahid Mallya & Bhanu Pratap, Kanika Kapoor, Vishal Dadlani, Amit Trivedi and Diljit Dosanjh.
Trailer Analysis & Release: The film's trailer has been much appreciated and all the actors seem to have given stellar performances. However, Udta Punjab is reportedly having issues with the censor board over profanity and scenes of drug use. Censor Board even has an objection to Punjab word in the title. The film is slated to release on June 17 and has already got an A certificate from Censor Board.
We really hope that it gets to hit the screen without much cuts and objections!
