Following the row over the deployment of soldiers at toll plazas in West Bengal,
Congress leader Sachin Pilot asked from political parties not to drag the army into politics.
The Congress leader urged to both the Trinamool Congress the ruling party in West Bengal and the Bharatiya Janata Party the central government not to involve army in the political issues.
The Congress leader, Sachin Pilot said, “Army should not be dragged into politics. The army fights for the nation, sacrifices their life for the safety and security of our country.”
The former Union Minister said, “If the army was doing the checking without informing the state, then defence minister should make a statement and if the army has done the checking after informing the state, then the state government should come out clean on why they are making such statements.”
The drama over the army taking over road toll plazas in the state was raised in Parliament with the government strongly denying the charge, and stated that it was a routine exercise conducted with full knowledge of the local authorities and the Trinamool Congress smelling “sinister” motives behind the move.
This issue was raised in both the Houses of Parliament in which the main opposition Congress wants a clarification on the army deployment at 19 toll plazas in West Bengal.
The Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said in Lok Sabha that, “routine exercise not unique to West Bengal.”
The Chief Minister of West Benal Mamata Banerjee stayed put at the secratriat in Nabanna last night and she was protesting against the army presence at toll plazas in several places going to the extent of saying whether it was an “army coup.”
