Prior says his role will be to 'turbo charge' England to World Cup glory

Hobart , Fri, 21 Jan 2011 ANI

Hobart, Jan 21(ANI): Recalled England wicketkeeper Matt Prior has said that he intends to use his experience and leadership skills to guide the team to World Cup glory.

Prior is the sole wicketkeeper-batsman named in the 15-man England squad for the two-month tournament in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

He had been replaced by Steve Davies in the ongoing seven-match ODI series against Australia.

"I take it upon myself to manage the fielding unit and keep an eye on the energy and intensity that we can build up," the Daily Mail quoted Prior, as saying.

"Fielding is something we take a lot of pride in and the keeper's role in this day and age is to make sure you manage that and make sure those high standards stay where they need to be."

"It's something I've done in Test cricket, it's something I enjoy and I'll keep doing it in one-day cricket. It's important to have as many leaders on the park as possible to help the captain out," he added.

The 28-year-old, who scored a century in the Fifth Ashes Test in Sydney, has so far failed to have the same impact on limited-overs matches for England.

However, the selectors feel that he can still score heavily in the shorter form of the game - as an opener or in the middle order (ANI)
