To Commemorate the World Health Day, Public Health Department, South Delhi Municipal Corporation celebrated the event as campaign for raising community awareness with integrated approach. The function was attended by representative and experts from WHO, NVBDCP, GOI, Delhi Govt., NDMC, North and East DMC, RWA’s, Intersectoral partners departments.
World Health Organization observes every year globally with a theme. This year has been rightly chosen as Small Bite – Big Threat i.e. prevention and control of vector borne diseases.The Department organised Drawing Competition for school children of SDMC, Public Lecture for RWA's and an exhibition was put up to raise the awareness.
Mr.Manish Gupta, Commissioner SDMC was Chief Guest on this occasion. A Cultural Programme with Skit was presented by school children of SDMC with a theme on Prevention & Control of Vector Borne diseases and general hygiene. A panel of experts was constituted to judge the Drawings prepared by children and three children were awarded First second and third prize and two consolation prizes. All the children who participated in Drawing Competition and Cultural event were also given certificate of participation.
Dr. N.K.Yadav gave the overview of status of Vector Borne diseases in Delhi and the essence of the theme of World Health Day 2014.Commissioner SDMC stressed that stringent enforcement measures and IEC are also required for prevention and control of Vector Borne Diseases. All other experts and speakers laid stress on community participation and said that diseases like dengue, Malaria, Chikugunya etc. can’t be controlled without people’s participation.
The representative from WHO also appreciated the efforts of Public Health Deptt. of MCD (South). This Mega Event was organised in collaboration with Education Deptt.
