'Bike for Peace Around the World in 90 Days' campaign for a Nuclear Free World

From March 14th until June 18th 2014, a NGO Bike for Peace in Norway is all set to organize an around the world in 90 daysbicycle peace-ride. The ride is to start from March 14 until June 16 th to complete its journey.

The goal for this ride is to continue our fight for a world free of nuclear weapons, a world where human rights, human dignity and equality is respected regardless of gender, religion, culture, race, disabilities or other barriers. It will touch and engage people from the grass root to policy makers in 10 countries and 68 cities. We plan to hold meetings in every city where we stay overnight - meetings with local politicians, peace groups, media, etc. It will also include local riders in addition to the core group.

Bike for Peace was founded in 1977, and the first peace-ride was hosted in Northern Ireland in 1978 where we biked in a group with Protestants and Catholics. Since then, Bike for Peace has organized friendship and peace rides in more than 100 countries.

Around the World tour 2014 is being planned in full co-operation with the international peace organisation Mayors for Peace, established in 1982 by Mayor Araki in Hiroshima. The organisation has around 6000 members (mayors, cities, municipalities) from 157 countries on all continents representing more than a billion inhabitants.

These are the personalities who are part of the trip.

Anita Valen, a Norwegian ex-professional cyclist.

Frank Tomlinson, Vice President of Bike for Peace and Great Britain;

Thore Vestby, Vice President of Mayors for Peace and Mayor of Frogn, Norway. He will join us on different parts of this event.

Tore Nærland, President of Bike for Peace. Tore Nærland is visually impaired and will bike tandem with Frank and Anita.

The former Prime Minister of Norway Kjell Magne-Bondevik will bike with us in the trips from Manchester to London, in Paris and from Washington to New York.

Annie Simonsen from Bergen and Inge Klepsland from Chak Norway will be on the tour in some of our European legs.

The Event will kick off in Manchester on March 15. The first main leg will take it to Coventry and then the cyclists will cycle to London before going on to France, Italy, Iran, India, Burma-Myanmar, China, Japan, and Indonesia. Then we travel to the U.S. to commit a coast to coast biking from San Francisco to New York. The event will be end with biking from Oslo via Oppegård, Drammen, Tønsberg to Skien in Norway from June 15th to 18th.
