To deepen bilateral and economic relations between India and Argentina, it was imperative to have state policies which facilitate and establish a dialogue among stakeholders including both public and private sector, said Dr. Antonio Juan Bonfatti, Governor of the Province of Santa Fe, Argentina, at an interactive session organized by FICCI to explore business and investment avenues in India and Argentina.
For cementing the bond between India and Argentina, Dr. Bonfatti is on a two-week trip to India with a 40-member industry and ministerial delegation.
During his visit, the Governor witnessed the progress India has achieved in the fields of wind energy and biomass. He added that sectors such as technological, ecological and renewables are being well managed and are growing significantly in India.
Dr. Bonfatti urged the industry to engage in cultural exchange as well. He suggested that universities of both the countries should commence exchange programmes as a stepping stone in this regard.
Riva Ganguly Das, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, said that close relations exist between India and Argentina. But bilateral trade and economic relations is below the potential that exists in both the nations. She added that the visit of the Governor of the Province of Santa Fe, Argentina, with his business delegation had come on the heels of the successful completion of the Joint Commission Meeting between the two countries, which will help in strengthening the bilateral relations further.
Das said that the visit was extremely important for the business delegation from Santa Fe as it would help them in exploring possibilities of business and investment with their Indian counterparts.
A business session on ‘Opportunities for Indian industry in Santa Fe, Argentina’ was also organized which was moderated by Mr. R Viswanathan, former Ambassador of India to Argentina, Paraguay & Uruguay and Venezuela, and CG Sao Paulo, Brazil. Ms. Mugdha Sinha, Director, Department of Commerce, MoCI, GOI; Mr. P S Rawat, Vice President, United Phosphorus Limited and Mr. Ram Gopal Dhiman, Chief Manager International Business, International Tractors Limited, amongst others, were the panelists.
