The Festival of Lights is known as Deepavali in Singapore, and as Diwali in India, but they are essentially the same celebration.

The most widespread holiday is 23 October, where Diwali is a holiday in India. West Bengal celebrates Kali Puja, a Hindu festival dedicated to the godess Kali on the same day as Dewali.

To get the better return we should worship Maa Laxmi in better moment which has been decided by our astrologers and scholars. This year, Deewali is to be celebrated on 23 October and for this the best timing is Brishabh Rashi, in the evening 18.53 to 20.53 in Delhi. According to astrology the best timing will be continue till 20.53 and one should worship lord Ganesha and Kuber during the period.

But one should follow the Panchang for the timing of pooja which vary with the latitude and longitude for better return.

The atmosphere is very festive during Laxmi Puja. Girls and women of the house put rangolis (floor patterns) of rice flour and water, they call it 'alpanas'.

Laxmi Puja is most of the time performed in the evenings, depending upon the 'mahurat' or ‘tithi’ for the same.

According to the Hindu belief, Goddess Laxmi resembles wealth and prosperity, Thus, she is worshipped in almost every Hindu home.
